
WHAT IS AN ENTERPRISE ZONE:
An Enterprise Zone is a defined geographic area in which economic incentives are made available to new and
existing businesses that expand through capital investments and/or job creation. Nearly 4,200 acres in Washington
County are within three state-designated Enterprise Zones. Each Zone is approved by the State of Maryland for a
10 year period
HANCOCK ZONE
Approved in 1995 and extended for an additional 10 year period, this 1,500 acre zone surrounds the Town of
Hancock, stretching from the Pennsylvania border to the Potomac River. The Zone includes commercial and
industrial development opportunities in selected areas of town, as well as commercial frontage along Main Street.
CREDITS AVAILABLE
To qualify for benefits, a business must be located in a zone, and meet the minimum requirements for job creation
or capital investment of $5,00 or more(construction/rehabilitation of real property) and/or create one(1) or more
new jobs (permanent full-time positions)
