HANCOCK, MARYLAND
Hancock,
Maryland is a quaint locale that brings the ideal of Small Town
America to life. The folks are friendly, the businesses are mostly
owner and family operated, and the great outdoors are literally
in our backyard. Our town is a crossroads for several major highways.
We are centrally located and easily accessible to Interstates 70 & 68 and U.S. Routes 522 & 40. We're pleased to be part
of the distinction that U.S. Route 40 has been given as the "All-American
Road."
Hancock is nestled at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains
of Western Maryland along the banks of the Potomac River. We are
minutes away from the borders of Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Hunting and fishing in the area has been a long standing tradition.
Bicyclists, skaters, walkers, joggers, and natures lovers utilize
the C&O Canal towpath and the Western Maryland Rail Trail, both
just parallel to Hancock's Main Street. Camping, horseback riding,
and boating also lend to Hancock's reputation for year round outdoor
recreational experiences.
As the saying goes, "It's always the quiet ones that
you have to watch," and that stands true for the town of Hancock.
For two and a half centuries we've been geographically positioned
to witness the history of U.S. travel, commerce, and culture unfold.
Now we'd like to share our heritage with you. An active Historical
Society, Arts Council, and Chamber of Commerce, along with numerous
churches and civic organizations, reflect our people's commitment
to community. We love this picturesque Mason-Dixon Line town with
its sense of nostalgia that is a complement to the revitalization
improvements made by the town government. We hope this web site
tour will result in a personal tour and visit to Hancock, Maryland.
The
Hancock Chamber of Commerce has developed this web site for
several reasons. Naturally we wish to let you know about the area
businesses that are here to serve you. But whether you are a visitor
to the area, or a resident of the town or surrounding communities,
we hope that this web site will serve as a reference guide for recreational
activities and attractions of all kinds.
We invite your comments and suggestions. Please contact
us with revisions and updates for local events. If you have any
questions that have not been answered we will be happy to assist
you. Thanks for stopping by, and come again.
